CONF-MPCS 2024

The 2nd International Conference on Mathematical Physics and Computational Simulation (CONF-MPCS 2024) was a hybrid conference which includes several workshops (offline and online) around the world. Dr. Anil Fernando from University of Strathclyde, Dr. Gueltoum Bendiab from University of Frères Mentouri, and Dr. Marwan Omar from Illinois Institute of Technology have chaired these workshops on related topics. CONF-MPCS 2024 provided the participants with good opportunities to exchange ideas and build networks, and it will lead to further collaborations between both universities and other societies.

Workshop

University of Strathclyde, UK

Workshop Chair: Dr. Anil Fernando, Professor in University of Strathclyde

The workshop titled “Unlocking Video Contextual Ad Insights: Enhancing Topic Explainability with Rich Multimodal Content Retrieval” was successfully held at the University of Strathclyde on August 9, 2024. Semantic communication is an emerging paradigm that optimises communication by leveraging the underlying meaning of data, rather than just its raw form. This approach has shown great potential in improving aspects like data compression, error correction, and privacy preservation. However, the security of these systems—specifically, their semantic security—remains a critical concern. Semantic security focuses on protecting the meaning of the transmitted data, ensuring that even if the data is intercepted, its intended message remains secure and unintelligible to unauthorised parties.

Existing research on the security of semantic communication is relatively sparse, especially regarding the robustness of these systems against attacks targeting the semantic content of the data. This workshop aims to fill this gap by investigating the security of semantic communication systems under realistic threat scenarios. The primary objective is to evaluate how secure these systems truly are and to highlight the importance of ensuring robust semantic security.

University of Frères Mentouri, Algeria

Workshop Chair: Dr. Gueltoum Bendiab, Associate professor in University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine

The workshop titled "Machine Learning: Integrating Machine Learning Techniques to Advance Network Security" took place on July 15, 2024 at University of Frères Mentouri. The workshop aims to explore the intersection of machine learning and network security, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to leverage these technologies effectively. During the workshop, attendees delved into the fundamentals of machine learning and its application in the context of network security. They gained a comprehensive understanding of various machine learning algorithms and how they can be employed to analyze network traffic, detect anomalies, identify patterns, and predict potential security breaches. Practical hands-on exercises and case studies provided participants with valuable insights into the implementation and evaluation of machine learning models for network security.

Illinois Institute of Technology, USA

Workshop Chair: Dr. Marwan Omar, Associate Professor in Illinois Institute of Technology

The Quantum Machine Learning workshop, held in conjunction with the International Conference on Mathematical Physics and Computational Simulation (CONF-MPCS 2024), is a pioneering event dedicated to exploring the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning. This workshop aims to unpack the complexities of quantum algorithms and their application in enhancing machine learning techniques, offering a deep dive into a field that stands at the cutting edge of computational and data sciences.

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of quantum computing, including the principles of quantum mechanics that underpin quantum algorithms and qubits. The workshop will cover a range of topics, from theoretical aspects of quantum machine learning to practical applications, showcasing how quantum-enhanced algorithms can solve complex problems faster and more efficiently than their classical counterparts.

The event is designed to be highly interactive, featuring expert-led keynote speeches, technical presentations on cutting-edge research, and collaborative discussions. It offers a unique platform for attendees from various backgrounds—academics, industry professionals, and students—to engage with leading experts, share insights, and foster collaborations. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a comprehensive understanding of quantum machine learning's potential to revolutionize data analysis and computational simulations, equipped with new knowledge to navigate and contribute to this rapidly evolving field.
